In the Halishahar area of Chittagong, 40 years old Samir Ahmed, who was severely burned in a gas cylinder explosion at his home, has died while undergoing treatment.
With his death, the toll from the fire has risen to three.
He passed away at 11:55am on Tuesday in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.
Residential surgeon Dr Shawon Bin Rahman confirmed the death, stating that about 45% of Samir’s body had been burned.
According to sources at the Burn Institute, six other people injured in the same incident in Halishahar are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Doctors said all of them suffered severe burns and remain in critical condition.
On Monday, the fire broke out following a gas cylinder explosion in a residential building in Halishahar, Chittagong. Several people, including members of the same family, sustained burn injuries. They were initially rescued and taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
