Awami League activist killed in factional clash over domination

An Awami League activist has been killed in a clash between two factions of the ruling party over establishing dominance in an area of Chapainawabganj's Sadar upazila. The clash took place on Saturday morning at Bagdanga area under the upazila's Sundarpur union. The deceased was identified as Ayub Ali, son of Namir Uddin of Bagdanga. He was a member of ward 9 of Awami League's Sundarpur union. A student named Arif was also injured in the incident. He was on his way home after finishing his classes. OC of Sadar Model police station Md Manzur Rahman said: "Members of two groups led by Sundarpur union Awami League Organizing Secretary Babu Master and Char Bakdanga union parishad Chairman Tipu clashed around 6:30am over dominance of an area in the upazila. At point, a bomb was blasted during the clash, leaving Ayub and Arif critically injured." Ayub was later taken to the district's Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead, he added. Arif has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and is undergoing treatment. The OC further said the situation has been brought under control and police have been deployed at the spot.
