Covid-19: Bangladesh records single death, 342 new cases

Daily test positivity rate jumps to 2.02% from 1.95% in 24 hours

Bangladesh witnessed single death from Covid-19 in the 24 hour-period till Friday morning, but the fresh infections remained high amid the fear of an Omicron surge.

The health authorities reported 342 new cases from 16,913 samples tested at the 849 labs across the country, according to the latest bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The daily test positivity rate now stands at 2.02%.

During the same period, some 292 people recovered from the deadly disease that spread havoc all over the world in the last two years.

The number of fresh infections was 382 a day before from 19,624 samples with a test positivity rate of 1.95%.

The latest additions took the country’s death toll to 28,055, the total caseload to 1,582,710 and the total number of recoveries to 1,546,956.

According to the data, the country’s overall Covid-19 mortality rate until Friday morning stood at 1.77%, overall recovery rate at 97.74%, and the overall positivity lowered to 13.93%.

Among the total 28,055 fatalities, 12,249 occurred in Dhaka division, 5,688 in Chittagong, 2,059 in Rajshahi, 3,618 in Khulna, 949 in Barisal, 1,273 in Sylhet, 1,372 in Rangpur and 847 in Mymensingh divisions.
