Covid-19: Bangladesh records 11 deaths, 599 cases in 24 hrs

Bangladesh recorded 11 more deaths from Covid-19 and 599 fresh cases in the 24 hours between 8am Sunday and 8am Monday.

Of the latest deceased, nine were women and two men.

At the same time, 634 patients also recovered across the country, according to the daily Covid-19 bulletin from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest data took the nation’s death toll to 27,699, total caseload to 1,562,958, and total recovery to 1,524,467.

In the 24 hours, 23,193 samples were tested across the country, yielding a positivity rate of 2.58%.

The daily positivity rate has now stayed below 5% for 21 consecutive days while the overall infection rate stands at 15.67%.

Bangladesh recorded a below 3% daily positivity rate last in February this year. However, the mortality rate remained static at 1.77% and the recovery rate at 97.53%.

In terms of deaths per division, Dhaka logged the highest again with seven fatalities followed by Barisal with two.

Khulna and Mymensingh counted one death each while no fatalities were reported from Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Rangpur.

Of the total 27,699 fatalities, 12,075 deaths occurred in Dhaka Division, 5,620 in Chittagong, 2,032 in Rajshahi, 3,574 in Khulna, 941 in Barisal, 1,258 in Sylhet, 1,360 in Rangpur and 839 in Mymensingh Division.

According to the latest DGHS data, around 36.17 million people in the country have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Of them, some 17.94 million have received both doses.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new strain of coronavirus later named Sars-CoV-2, on March 8 last year. The first death occurred 10 days later.

The fast-spreading virus has so far claimed over 4.86 million lives and infected more than 238.75 million people throughout the world, according to worldometer.

More than 215 million people have also recovered from the disease, which has affected 223 countries and territories across the planet.
