Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 11 deaths, 1,406 infections in a day

Case positivity rate drops further to 5.48%

Bangladesh recorded 11 deaths from coronavirus in the 24 hours till 8am on Friday with another 1,406 new infections being reported. 

The positivity rate dropped further to 5.48% during the same period as 25,667 samples were tested across the country.

On Thursday, the country recorded 10 deaths and 1,516 infections.

Friday’s figures took Bangladesh’s death toll from the coronavirus to 29,016 and the infections to 19,41,57.

Of the deaths, four were reported in Chittagong, two each in Barisal and Sylhet, and one each was reported in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions.

A total of 6,936 people recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours taking the total recovery to 17,93,082.

On January 28, Bangladesh logged its earlier highest daily positivity rate at 33.37% reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.

On December 9 last year, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.

The country reported the first zero death from the coronavirus in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.

Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.
