Covid-19: Daily infection rate dips below 10%

Bangladesh logged 24 more deaths, 2,584 cases

The infection rate in the country on Friday dipped below 10% for the first time since the surge in Covid-19 cases at the turn of the year.

Bangladesh logged 24 more Covid-related deaths with 2,584 fresh cases in 24 hours till yesterday morning, as the daily test positivity rate declined to 9.31% from Thursday’s 10.24%. 

As many as 27,692 samples were during the period, according to a bulletin from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), reports UNB.

On Thursday, Bangladesh reported 20 deaths with 3,539 fresh cases. 

The fresh numbers took the country’s total fatalities to 28,931 while the caseload mounted to 1,929,158.

Among the new deceased, 17 were men and seven women.

Of them, 14 of the deaths were reported in the Dhaka division while three each in Chittagong and Sylhet, two in Rajshahi, and one each in Khulna and Rangpur divisions.

Meanwhile, the mortality rate remained static at 1.50%.

However, the recovery rate slightly rose to 90.08%, with the recovery of 9,988 more patients during the 24-hour period.

On January 28, Bangladesh logged its earlier highest daily positivity rate at 33.37% reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.

On December 9 last year, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.

The country reported its first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year, along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.

Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.
