Rangpur division recorded its highest daily Covid-19 infection rate since the start of the pandemic in the 24 hours to Friday morning amid a countrywide surge in coronavirus cases.
The health authorities in the division reported 438 new cases at a positivity rate of 46.45% after testing 943 samples.
With the detection of the new patients, the total number of Covid-19 cases has climbed to 58,351 in Rangpur, said Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam, director of the divisional health directorate office.
Meanwhile, the number of fatalities remained static at 1,254 as no more infected patients died in the last 24 hours, and the fatality rate stands at 2.15%, Dr Islam said.
The total number recoveries reached 54,747 with the recovery of 62 more patients. The recovery rate in the division stands at 93.82%, he added.
The number of people in Rangpur who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine has mounted to 10,674,833, and of them, 6,380,023 have got the second dose and 147,206 have received the booster dose as of Thursday, he added.
