DGHS: Number of Covid patients went up by over 200% in past week

The number of Covid-19 patients in the country has increased by 222% in the past seven days, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
It said that Covid positivity rate was at tolerable level until mid-November, but since then Covid cases has been rising sharply in the country.
DGHS spokesperson Dr Najmul Islam said these during a regular briefing of the directorate on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the country recorded 5,222 new Covid-19 cases and eight deaths in 24 hours to 8am on Sunday.
With the fresh cases reported after testing 29,305 samples, the daily positivity rate increased to 17.82% from Saturday’s 14.35% during the period, according to the DGHS.
The country last logged 5,249 cases and 114 deaths on August 24, last year with a positivity rate at 15.12 per cent in 24 hours.
