Covid: Bangladesh reports 35 cases, zero deaths

Daily infection rate stands at 0.6%

The health authorities in Bangladesh reported 35 new Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours till 8am on Thursday.

With zero deaths, the total fatalities remained unchanged at 29,127, according to the latest Directorate General of Health Services bulletin.

As many as 5,864 samples were tested across the country, yielding a positivity rate of 0.6%.

The latest development brought the total number of cases to 1,953,138.

Moreover, 216 people recovered from the illness in the 24-hour period, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,900,354.

The recovery rate stands at 97.30% and the mortality rate at 1.49%.

In April, the country reported only five Covid-19 deaths and 1,114 new cases, while 14,100 patients recovered from the disease, according to the DGHS.

Among the five deaths during the period, two were unvaccinated patients while three were vaccinated with two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, reports UNB.

The country reported its first zero Covid-19 deaths in a single day on November 20 last year, along with 178 cases, since the pandemic broke out here in March 2020.

On January 28, Bangladesh logged its previous highest positivity rate of 33.37%.

The country registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 in the same year.

Globally, over 525.38 million people have been infected by the coronavirus and 6.28 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
