Covid: Zero deaths, 24 new cases reported in a day

Bangladesh has reported zero deaths from the coronavirus on Sunday, with 24 new cases logged in the 24 hours to 8am.

According to latest figures released by the health directorate, the overall caseload in the country now stands at 1,952,556 while fatalities at 29,127.

A total of 5,88 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 0.41%.

Another 329 people recovered from Covid-19 across the country taking the total recovery to 1,893,460.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 96.97% and the mortality rate at 1.49%.

Globally, the overall number of coronavirus cases crossed 509 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.

As of Saturday morning, the total case count mounted to 509,166,036 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,216,800, according to a tally by the Johns Hopkins University. 

The US has recorded 80,971,925 cases so far and 991,231 people have died from the virus in the country, the university data shows.

India's tally rose to 43,057,545 on Sunday, as 5,120 new cases were new cases were registered in 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's data.

This is the fifth consecutive day when the number of new cases has breached the 2,000-mark, after hitting low for the past several months.

Besides, there were 77 new deaths due to the pandemic since Saturday morning, taking the death toll to 522,193.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
