Daily Covid cases in Bangladesh drop to lowest in two years

Infection rate slumps to 0.38%

Bangladesh has reported 22 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday, the lowest in two years, with no deaths logged.

The last time the daily new cases were this low was on April 5, 2020, when 23 cases were reported

According to latest figures released by the health directorate, the overall caseload in the country now stands at 1,952,131 while fatalities at 29,124.

A total of 5,861 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 0.38%.

Another 375 people recovered from Covid-19 across the country taking the total recovery to 1,889,605.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 96.8% and the mortality rate at 1.49%.

Globally, the overall number of coronavirus cases is now nearing 500 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.

As of Tuesday morning, the total case count mounted to 499,748,065 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,181,560, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. 

The US has recorded 80,449,398 cases so far and 985,826 people have died from the virus in the country, it shows.

India's Covid-19 tally rose to 43,036,928 on Monday with 796 new cases registered in 24 hours across the South Asian country, showed the federal health ministry's data.

Besides, 38 fatalities due to the pandemic reported since Sunday morning took the total death toll to 521,723.
