Covid-19: Bangladesh reports two deaths, 72 infections in 24 hours

Bangladesh reported two deaths from Covid-19 and 72 fresh infections in the 24 hours till 8am Wednesday.

The positivity rate was recorded at 0.89% with 8,050 samples tested across the country, according to a bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

On Tuesday, the country recorded one death from Covid-19 with 69 fresh cases.

The deaths were recorded in Rajshahi and Khulna divisions.

Of them, one was a male and another female.

Dhaka remained at the top with the highest number of new cases -- 61 -- in the 24 hours till 8am.

The latest additions took the country's total caseload to 1,951,504 and the death toll to 29,122.

A total of 876 people recovered from Covid during the same period taking the total recovery to 1,880,420.

On March 15 this year, the country logged zero deaths from coronavirus after more than three months.

On December 9 last year, Bangladesh logged zero Covid-related deaths after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.

The country reported the first zero death from the coronavirus in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.

Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.
