Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 799 cases, 8 deaths

The daily positivity rate dropped to 3.35%

Health authorities in Bangladesh reported eight more covid-linked deaths and 799 cases in the 24 hours till 8am on Tuesday.

As many as 23, 817 samples were tested across the country, yielding a daily positivity rate of 3.35%, according to a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) bulletin.

The latest development took the country's death toll to 29,045 and the caseload to 19,44,376.

However, the recovery rate increased to 93.71% with the recovery of 7,460 more patients during the 24-hour period, reports UNB.

Among the new deceased, five were men and three women.

Three deaths were reported from the Chittagong division while two from Rajshahi and one each from Dhaka, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions.

Meanwhile, the mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.49%.

The Covid-19 situation in February

In February, the country reported 643 Covid-linked deaths and 1,44,744 new cases while 2,46,452 patients recovered from the disease, according to DGHS.

Among the 643 deaths during the period, 421 were unvaccinated patients, 61 were vaccinated with the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, 158 with the second dose and three with the third dose.

On January 28, Bangladesh logged its earlier highest daily positivity rate at 33.37% reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.

On December 9 last year, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.

The country reported the first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.

Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.
