Government issues gazette to curtail recent Covid surge

The notification will come into effect on Thursday

The government has declared 11-point restrictions on public movement and other activities like operating public transport at their half capacities to stem the spread of Covid-19 cases.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification on Monday evening in this regard. It will come into effect on Thursday and remain in force until further notice.

According to the notification, everyone will have to wear a mask in public places. The use of masks should be ensured in all places, including offices and courts, and mobile court drives will be conducted to prevent the violation of health guidelines.

The 11-point restrictions are:

  • Everyone must wear masks in public places. Mobile court drives will be conducted to prevent violation of health guidelines.
  • All kinds of public gatherings, including social programs, political and religious events, will remain suspended until further notice.
  • All kinds of public transports must operate at half passenger capacity. Drivers and helpers must have Covid-19 vaccination certificates.
  • People must show their vaccine certificate to eat at restaurants and stay in residential hotels.
  • Students above 12 will not be allowed at educational institutions without Covid-19 vaccination certificates after a designated date to be fixed by the Education Ministry.
  • Increasing the number of tests at all ports. Crewmembers of ships are not allowed to go outdoors upon arriving at a port, and only truck drivers are allowed to enter land ports with trucks. 
  • Visitors with outbound passengers will not be allowed to enter airports.
  • Passengers from abroad must show Covid vaccination certificates and undergo Rapid Antigen tests upon arrival.
  • Imams will make people aware about the health guidelines and the use of masks in all mosques during prayers. Deputy commissioners and UNOs concerned will ensure that the announcements are made.
  • Health and Family Welfare Ministry will take necessary steps to ensure Covid-19 vaccination and accelerate the booster dose campaign. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry will assist them with publicity.
  • In case of special circumstances, the local administration can take steps in consultation with the authorities concerned.
