Four more die at RMCH Covid-19 unit in 24 hours

At least 130 patients undergoing treatment at the hospital’s coronavirus unit

Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) recorded four more fatalities at its Covid-19 unit in the last 24 hours till 6am on Sunday, taking the death toll to 120 so far this month.

The previous day's death figure in the unit was eight. Earlier, the number of casualties was 340 in August, 566 in July and 405 in June, health officials said.

RMCH Director Brigadier General Dr Shamim Yazdani told newsmen that two of the deceased were the residents of Naogaon, while one each was from Jhenidaha and Joypurhat districts.

He said: "Of the fresh fatalities, three had symptoms of Covid-19 and another had post-Covid complexities."

Twenty-two more patients were admitted to the designated Covid-19 wards of the hospital in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of admitted patients to 130, including 29 positive cases.

Nineteen other patients returned home from the RMCH Covid-19 unit after being cured during the time. Yazdani said 15 people were diagnosed with Covid-19 after testing 372 samples in Rajshahi's two laboratories on Saturday, showing a 4.96% positivity rate against 6.67% on Friday.
