Bangladesh logged yet another 58 deaths and 2,588 in the 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday morning.
The infection rate in the country dropped below 9% after 3 months and 11 days.
At least 29,541 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, yielding a positivity rate of 8.76%. Meanwhile, the overall infection rate stands at 16.62%. On May 29, the infection rate was below this figure, at 7.91%. It has been on a steady rise since then.
With the latest numbers, the coronavirus death toll shot up to 26,794 and the cases tally to 1,524,890.
The latest figures were published by the Directorate General of Health Services via a health bulletin on Thursday.
Average deaths over the last one week were 61.7. On Wednesday, they stood at 66.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, another 3,617 patients recovered, taking the number of total recoveries to 1,468,211. The recovery rate is currently at 96.28%.
Of the deceased, 35 were male and 23 female. Twenty-two of them were from Dhaka division, and 19 from Chittagong division. The rest were from Sylhet (8), Khulna (5), Rajshahi (3), and Rangpur (1).
About 31 of the deceased were aged 61 and above while 16 were aged between 51 and 60, seven between 41 and 50, and two each between the age ranges of 21-30 and 11-20.
All of them died at different hospitals across the country.
The mortality rate in the country stands at 1.76% thus far.

Around 20.14 million people in the country have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Of them, some 12.58 million have taken both doses, the latest DGHS data show.
The countrywide Covid-19 restrictions imposed after Eid-ul-Azha were eased soon afterwards from August 11, much to the dismay of public health experts.
They fear the recent downward trend in Covid-19 infections and deaths is only temporary and another wave of the pandemic may just be around the corner.
Health professionals dread that while the infection rate may drop below 10% by mid-September, it will start spiking again after that.
Bangladesh reported its first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a strain of coronavirus later named Sars-CoV-2, on March 8 last year. The first death was reported 10 days later.
The fast-spreading coronavirus has so far claimed over 4.6 million lives and infected more than 223.5 million people throughout the world, according to Worldometer.
More than 200 million people have recovered from the disease, which has affected 222 countries and territories across the planet.
