Bangladesh registered 41 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours to Thursday morning, taking the total number of deaths in the country to 11,796.
The latest single-day death toll is the lowest since March 29, when health authorities recorded 45 deaths. On March 28, the daily Covid-19 death toll was 35.
The country also logged a total of 769,160 coronavirus cases with 1,822 people testing positive over the same period.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Thursday.
Of the 41 deceased – 22 men and 19 women – 20 were from Dhaka division; 14 from Chittagong; two each from Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Barisal; and one from Khulna division.
Of them, 26 patients died in government hospitals, 14 in private hospitals, and one at home.
Twenty-four of the deceased patients were aged above 60, 15 between 51 and 60, and two aged between 41 and 50.
So far, 8,566 men (72.62%) and 3,230 women (27.38%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
Since the beginning, 6,860 people have died in Dhaka division, 2,164 in Chittagong, 617 in Rajshahi, 717 in Khulna, 357 in Barisal, 407 in Sylhet, 430 in Rangpur, and 244 in Mymensingh.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.53%.
The health authorities said 3,698 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 702,163 patients – 91.29% – have made full recovery across the country.
As many as 21,585 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 428 authorized labs -- government and private -- across the country.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 8.44%. The overall infection rate of the country stands at 13.78%.
Currently, 19,080 people are in isolation and 48,678 are quarantined.
On Thursday, another 54 people got the first dose, taking the total number of first doses to 5,819,811. While 103,800 got the second dose during the same time, taking the total vaccinated to 3,210,509.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December, 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 3,258,295 lives and infected 155,922,363 people across the world till Thursday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 133,386,219 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 220 countries and territories across the planet.
