Covid-19: On average 72 deaths per day in one week

Death toll stands at 9,891 while total number of infections at 697,985

Bangladesh logged another 69 deaths and 6,028 new cases over the last 24 hours till Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the 7-day moving average on Tuesday remained 72, just as it was on Monday. This is the highest since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh. On Sunday, the 7-day rolling average stood at 67.57 — the highest since the pandemic began, to be broken again on Monday.

For the 7-day moving average, one has to sum up the data of one week and divide it by 7. This helps in identifying rise and fall in trends.

With the new deaths and cases, the current death toll stands at 9,891 while the total number of infections at 697,985.

Monday saw the highest single day deaths in the country with 83 deaths in a span of 24 hours. And, on April 7, the highest ever cases – 7,626 – were recorded. Highest single-day deaths were recorded for three straight days from Saturday to Monday (77, 78, and 83).

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) published the newest stats on Tuesday, via a press release.

According to the press release, the number of tests fell over the last 24 hours with 32,955 tests conducted in 255 centres across the country. On Monday, it was 34,968.

Of the recently deceased, 43 are male and 26 female. Sixty-three of them died in different hospitals across the country, five at home and one of them was pronounced dead on arrival when brought to a hospital.

Forty-one people died in Dhaka division, 13 in Chittagong, three each in Rajshahi, Khulna, Rangpur, and Barisal divisions. Two of them died in Sylhet division, and one in Mymensingh.

Another 33,618 samples were collected for testing over the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, 4,853 people were discharged after recovery, taking the total recoveries to 585,966.

On Tuesday, the daily rate of infections stands at 18.29% and the total rate of infections at 13.76%. The mortality rate remains stable at 1.42% and recovery rate at 83.95%.

Till 2:30pm Tuesday, a total of 5.6 million people got first dose and 522,596 people got second dose.

On March 8 last year, the health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain named Sars-CoV-2. The country recorded its first Covid-19 death on March 18.

The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.

The fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 2,961,823 lives and infected at least 137,393,550 people across the world till Tuesday evening, according to Worldometer.

And, as many as 110,552,289 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has affected 221 countries and territories across the planet.
