The number of new infections shot up to 845 in Bangladesh on Monday after a month of downtrend.
The month of March shows an upward trend of rising cases by the day. On Sunday, 606 new coronavirus cases were detected, and on March 1, 585 more infections were recorded, after almost a month of lower rate of infections.
In addition, 14 more deaths were recorded in a span of 24 hours, on Monday.
The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 8,476 and the total number of infections at 551,175, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The number of tests also increased on Monday – 16,958, which still points out to the fact that higher testing will show the actual number of infections in the country. On Sunday, 14,092 tests were conducted.
On March 8 last year, the first three cases were detected in Bangladesh, and the first death was reported on March 18 last year.
As of Sunday, over 3.8 million people have been inoculated. The daily infection rate stood at 4.98%, up from 4.30% on Sunday.
The overall infection rate stands at 13.28% – with a total of 4,163,163 tests being conducted across the country till now.
At the same time, the mortality rate against the total number of cases detected remains at 1.54%.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,117 people had recovered from the disease over the last 24 hours.
So far, 504,120 patients – 91.46% of all infected – have made full recovery across the country.

The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.

As many as 93,016,998 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has affected 219 countries and territories across the planet.
