More and more people in Chittagong showing increased interest to get vaccinated

According to the Civil Surgeon Office, as many as 4,978 people have taken the vaccine in the last two days in Chittagong

People are getting over their initial apprehension and fear, and now showing an increased interest in getting themselves vaccinated in Chittagong.

According to the Chittagong Civil Surgeon Office, as many as 4,978 people have taken the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine shot in the last two days in Chittagong.

Besides, some 60,000 people have so far registered for Covid-19 vaccine.

On January 31, a total of 456,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine reached Chittagong Civil Surgeon office.

As many as 154,905 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been allocated for the port city dwellers. The remaining 301,095 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been distributed among 14 upazilas under Chittagong.

Mad rush for Covid-19 vaccine

Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said they were receiving huge response from the people over Covid-19 inoculation drive.

“People are literally scrambling for the vaccine. We have set a target of administering 300 doses of vaccine at Chittagong General Hospital on Tuesday. However, we administered 600 doses,” said the Civil Surgeon.

“We are also trying to keep the wastage to a minimum while administering the vaccine. As per the protocol, 10% wastage is allowable. We prefer not to open a vial unless there are 10 people waiting to take the shot,” said the Civil Surgeon.

Chittagong Divisional Director of the DGHS Dr Hasan Shahriar Kabir visited the vaccination booths set up at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Tuesday.

While talking to the media, Dr Shahriar said that the number of people wishing to take the vaccine is rising exponentially.

“The initial apprehension among the people is now over. People are showing an increased interest with the age bar brought down to 40 now,” said Dr Kabir.

As many as 2,70,850 people have so far been tested for Covid-19 in Chittagong and a total of 33,586 people have been diagnosed with the deadly viral disease.

Of them, 26,244 patients hail from the metropolitan area while the remaining 7342 patients are from different upazilas of the district.

The positivity rate stands at 12.40%.

As of February 9, a total of 369 people have succumbed to the deadly viral disease. The mortality rate stands at 1.10%.
