Covid-19: Bangladesh records 24 deaths, 910 new cases in 24 hrs

At least 7,650 people have died of Covid-19 in Bangladesh till now

Bangladesh has logged 24 deaths and 910 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours till Monday morning.

With the new cases, the total number of cases on Monday surged to 516,929 according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the 24 who people died from the disease in the same period, taking the overall tally to 7,650. 

Of the total samples tested, 7.52% tested positive, whereas 15.80% cases were detected from the total tests conducted so far, added the release.

Deceased

Among the total infections, 89.28% patients have recovered, while 1.48% died since Bangladesh detected its first three Covid-19 positive cases on March 8. 

Of the 24 victims, 18 were male, six female and all of them died in the hospital.

Of the total deceased 14 were aged above 60, eight were above fifty, one was above 40 and one was below the age of 10, said the press release.

The division-wise data shows that 17 deaths took place in Dhaka division, three in Rajshahi and two each in Chittagong and Khulna.

Among the total 7,650 deaths, 4,209 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 1,416 in Chittagong division, 441 in Rajshahi division, 536 in Khulna division, 238 in Barisal division, 293 in Sylhet division, 346 in Rangpur division, and 171 in Mymensingh division.

Recovery

The recovery count rose to 461,515 after another 917 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period.

A total of 12,096 samples were tested at 180 authorized laboratories across the country during the time.

A total of 3,272,423 samples have so far been tested since the detection of the first Covid-19 cases in the country.

The DGHS said in order to make treatment facilities easily available for the Covid-19 patients, the government has introduced round-the-clock telemedicine services, comprising 100 physicians, in the country.

The DGHS said 23,307,922 people received healthcare services from hotline mobile numbers and health web portals as the government formed a group of medical professionals to provide emergency healthcare services.

Global Situation

On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.

The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.

The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 1,852,122 lives and infected 85,565,259 people across the world till Monday afternoon, according to Worldometer.

As many as 60,534,761 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 218 countries and territories across the planet.
