Bangladesh has registered 19 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours to Thursday morning. With the latest development, the total number of deaths reached 7,378 in the country.
The country also logged a total of 506,102 coronavirus cases with 1,234 people testing positive over the same period.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Thursday.
Of the 19 deceased – 15 men and four women – 11 were from Dhaka division, four from Chittagong, three from Mymensingh, and one from Khulna division.
Of the victims, 17 died at different hospitals and two at home.
So far, 5,622 men (76.2%) and 1,756 women (23.8%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
Since the beginning, 4,032 have died in Dhaka division, 1,376 in Chittagong, 431 in Rajshahi, 520 in Khulna, 236 in Barisal, 290 in Sylhet, 331 in Rangpur, and 162 in Mymensingh.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.46%.
The health authorities said 2,345 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 446,690 patients – 88.26% – have made full recovery across the country.
As many as 13,227 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 163 authorized labs -- government and private -- across the country.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 16.14%. The overall infection rate of the country stands at 9.33%.
Currently, 11,891 people are in isolation and 39,328 are quarantined.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
Global situation
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 1,739,914 lives and infected 79,163,120 people across the world till Thursday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 55,747,024 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the planet.
The US has recorded the most cases since the start of the pandemic with 18,917,152 followed by India with 10,123,778 and Brazil with 7,366,677.
Meanwhile, as many as 334,218 people died from Covid-19 so far in the US.
Brazil has the world's second-highest Covid-19 death toll, after the United States, and the third-largest outbreak, after the US and India.
Brazil reported 189,264 deaths from Covid-19 while death toll in India reached 146,778.
