Noted scientist Dr Bijon Kumar Sil, who worked on the antigen and antibody test kits developed by Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK), has left Bangladesh for Singapore on Sunday.
The scientist, who has been frequently travelling between Bangladesh and Singapore, expects that he will come back again if he receives the work permit.
Currently, his family lives in Singapore.
GK Press Adviser Jahangir Alam Mintu said Dr Sil left Bangladesh due to visa-related complications.
“We [GK] have already applied for his work permit. We hope he will return soon,” he said.
Dr Sil led the research team that developed GK's rapid test kit in Bangladesh.
Dr Sil’s work permit visa in Bangladesh expired in July, but he failed to leave the country due to the travel restrictions enforced due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
