Bangladesh, with Friday's development, has become one of the top 20 countries with the highest number of positive Covid-19 cases worldwide.
Bangladesh holds the 20th spot in the global list of countries with the highest number of coronavirus cases, according to data published by data aggregation website Worldometer as of 5pm on Friday.
Bangladesh crossed 60,000 in confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 2,828 people testing positive in the past 24 hours till Friday, since confirming its first three cases on March 8.
The country reported its first coronavirus death on March 18 and crossed 800 deaths on Friday as 30 more people died of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours.
With the latest data, Bangladesh now ranks third in terms of the number of people infected by Covid-19 amongst its South Asian neighbours followed by India and Pakistan respectively.
India so far has confirmed a total of 227,273 Covid-19 cases whereas Pakistan has a total of 89,249 people who have been infected with the virus.
The US with a total 1,924,189 confirmed cases, Brazil with 615,870 cases, and Russia with 449,834 cases are the top three countries with the highest numbers of infection.
Meanwhile, Spain holds the fourth spot, United Kingdom fifth, Italy sixth, India seventh, Germany eighth, Peru ninth, Turkey 10th, Iran 11th, France 12th, Chile 13th, Mexico 14th, Canada 15th, Saudi Arabia 16th, Pakistan 17th, China 18th, and Qatar is 19th in the list of countries with the most number of Covid-19 patients with Bangladesh placing in the 20th position.
