Grocery shops in the capital can now remain open until 4pm every day amid the shutdown imposed to stem the spread of the coronavirus, says the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
“The shops will open at 6am, but from now can run until 4pm instead of 2pm,” said Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman of the DMP.
However, the business hours of kitchen markets and super shops will remain from 6am to 5pm as usual, he said before adding drug stores and emergency services are exempted.
Bangladesh has been under lockdown from March 26 and the period of closure has been extended several times since — most recently until May 5 — as the number of coronavirus cases and deaths continued to surge.
