At least 12 people died from symptoms similar to those of coronavirus in 10 districts on Friday night and on Saturday.
In Manikganj, a 6o year-old with respiratory problems died while he was in home quarantine in Sadar upazila on Saturday, confirmed UNO Mohammad Iqbal Hossain. "We have collected samples and will send them to Dhaka for testing,” he said.
In Gazipur, a 45-year-old man, suffering from cold and cough, breathed his last in Sreepur upazila on Friday night, said Dr Pronoyu Bhusan Das, upazila health and family planning officer.
In Khulna, a six-month-old baby suffering from cold, fever, cough and pneumonia died at the Isolation Unit of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) at around 1pm on Saturday morning, said KMCH Corona Unit Doctor Shailendranath Biswas.
In Narayanganj, a 48-year-old man died after suffering from fever and respiratory problems in Rupganj upazila on Friday, according to upazila health officer Sayed Al Mamun. "Samples collected from the deceased were sent to IEDCR."
In Lakshmipur, a 55-year-old man suffering from fever died at Charfolkon Jajira of Kamalnagar upazila on Friday night, said Civil Surgeon Abdul Gaffar: "Four houses were put under lockdown after the man died at around 11:30pm.
In Faridpur, a day labourer suffering from fever died in Madhukhali upazila, said Madhukhali police station officer-in-charge Aminur Rahman: "The health authorities have collected samples from the deceased and sent them to IEDCR for testing.'
In Bhola, a man with fever and breathing problems died at Charumed in Lalmohan upazila on Friday night, said Dr Mohsin Khan, resident medical officer of Lalmohan Health Complex.
In Madaripur, a 52-year-old woman with fever, cough and sore throat, died on Friday night while undergoing treatment at Kalkini upazila health complex, said residential medical officer Rezaul Karim.
In Kushtia, a member of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP from Sadar upazila and a 30- year-old from Daulatpur upazila died on Friday. They were both suffering from cold, fever and cough, as confirmed by the UNOs of both upazilas.
In Brahmanbaria, two women suffering from fever, cold and breathing problems died in Sadar and Nabinagar upazilas on Saturday morning, said civil surgeon Ekram Ullah.
4 more districts under lockdown
In a bid to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, Sylhet, Rajbari Brahmanbaria, and Munshiganj districts have gone into lockdown.
The deputy commissioners of the districts announced the measure on Saturday.
