Coronavirus: Quarantined Independent TV employees cleared to return to work

A videographer for the channel tested positive for Covid-19 on April 2

Update : 11 Apr 2020, 03:04 PM

All of the 47 Independent TV journalists who have been in isolation are now out of danger as they have shown no symptoms of Covid-19 during their isolation period.

Independent TV Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Editor-in-Chief M Shamsur Rahman confirmed the matter in a Facebook post on Saturday.

“Very happy to inform you that all the 47 colleagues of Independent TV, who had been in isolation, completed the quarantined period on April 9. They are all in sound health and are not showing any symptom of Covid-19,” he said.

They can all return to work according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), said the social media post.

However, to be on the safe side, the channel authorities have decided to wait a couple of days before asking them to rejoin the workplace.

The journalist who did test positive for Covid-19 is still in institutional quarantine, as per the Facebook post.

“He does not have fever anymore or sore throat. He only has mild dry cough. We are all praying for his speedy recovery,” said Shamsur.

On April 2, a videographer of the private news channel Independent TV tested positive for Covid-19, which led to 47 of his colleagues being home-quarantined.

“The journalist showed symptoms on March 26 and has been in self-isolation since then. He contacted IEDCR two days ago and the results came positive,” said Shamsur on April 3.

Analyzing CCTV footage, the organization prepared a list of 47 people who had been in contact with the journalist, all of whom were then sent to self-isolation.
