Social distancing is essential for fighting the spread of the coronavirus. That means staying home as much as possible. However, you still need to visit the grocery store or pharmacy once in a while. Use the tips below to ensure the virus does not return home with you.

•    Designate one person to run all your errands. The fewer people you are exposed to, the better.

•    Set up a disinfection station, ideally outside your home, if possible. Use it to disinfect packaged food or goods.

•    While you are out, maintain a distance of at least six feet from others. Wipe handles on carts or baskets while shopping. Wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face.

•    When you return home with something, use the disinfection station. Then wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.

•    Frequently disinfect everything you touch including doorknobs, light switches, keys, phone, keyboards, remotes, etc.

•    Ask delivery guys to drop deliveries off on your doorstep or an area of your complex. Pay online if it is possible. If you need to come to the door maintain six feet of distance and make the transaction as fast as possible. Wash your hands afterwards.

•    Wash clothes and towels regularly with warm water, or on the warmest setting if you are using a washing machine. Don’t shake dirty laundry to avoid diffusing the virus in the air.

•    It is best not to have guests over right now. But if you must, avoid sharing living spaces as much as you can. If they need to enter shared living spaces, ask them to keep six feet of distance.

•    If someone in your home gets sick, consult a doctor over the phone. Isolate them in another room and ask them to use a separate bathroom. Ask them to wear a face mask and avoid sharing items with them.

•    It is alright to play with your pets. You can even play outside as long as you keep your distance from other humans. If you are sick, ask someone you live with to take care of your pet while you recover. If you must take care of them by yourself wash your hands frequently.

It is important to note that recommendations for dealing with Covid-19 may change as officials learn more. Therefore, it is essential to stay up-to-date on them.
