The program marks a crucial first step toward bridging the country’s skill gap and preparing Bangladesh’s youth for the competitive global job market

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul on Saturday announced the launch of Bangladesh’s first-ever skill development program aimed at training 6,000 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) candidates.

The program, set to begin in Tangail, marks a crucial first step toward bridging the country’s skill gap and preparing Bangladesh’s youth for the competitive global job market.

Dr Nazrul made the announcement while inaugurating skill development courses for SSC candidates at Tangail TTC, Nagarpur TTC, and Kalihati TTC.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr Nazrul emphasized that the international labour market increasingly favours skilled workers over low-skilled or unskilled labour.

Without enhancing the capabilities of the workforce, future prospects for overseas employment will remain uncertain, he added.

He noted that following the SSC examinations, students typically face a six-month academic gap. This skill development program aims to productively utilize that period by offering training in computer literacy, graphic design, and other essential skills.

Referring to his advisory role, Dr Nazrul also highlighted numerous emerging opportunities for overseas employment, noting that new avenues have opened in Serbia, Romania, and other parts of Europe.

Additionally, Japan has proposed recruiting 100,000 workers from Bangladesh, he said.

Discussing his recent visit to Malaysia, he mentioned that the country is planning to recruit the highest number of Bangladeshi workers.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Jordan have reiterated their commitment to continuing the regular intake of Bangladeshi workers. However, employment-related issues in Bahrain persist and are currently being addressed, he noted.

Dr Nazrul also mentioned the establishment of an expatriate welfare lounge and revealed plans to build a hospital specifically for expatriates—an institution that they will own and operate themselves.
