Over 25,000 candidates absent on 1st day of SSC exams nationwide

Under the nine general education boards, a total of 1,122,963 students appeared in the exams, while 11,890 were absent

A significant number of candidates were absent on the first day of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations held across the country, with a total of 25,408 students failing to appear.

A press release, signed by Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee Chairman and Dhaka Education Board Chairman Professor Dr Khondokar Ehsanul Kabir, confirmed the matter on Tuesday.

Under the nine general education boards, a total of 1,134,853 candidates were registered for the examinations. Of them, 1,122,963 students appeared in the exams, while 11,890 were absent.

The board-wise breakdown of absentee candidates is as follows:

Attendance in General Education Boards

Dhaka Board: 2,746 absent, Rajshahi Board: 1,759 absent, Comilla Board: 1,425 absent, Jassore Board: 1,441 absent, Chittagong Board: 1,003 absent, Sylhet Board: 674 absent, Barisal Board: 911 absent, Dinajpur Board: 1,178 absent, Mymensingh Board: 753 absent 

Madrasah Education Board

Under the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board, 254,903 candidates were registered. Of them, 243,692 students appeared for the examination, while 11,211 remained absent.

Technical Education Board

In the Bangladesh Technical Education Board, out of 119,250 registered candidates, 116,943 appeared in the examinations, with 2,307 students absent.

Officials noted that despite the absences, the examinations were conducted smoothly across all boards.
