The interim government has removed the names of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members from 11 more educational institutions under the Department of Textiles, Ministry of Textiles and Jute.
A notification regarding the name changes was issued by the ministry on January 23 and published on its website on Sunday.
According to the notification, Bangabandhu Textile Engineering College in Kalihati, Tangail, has been renamed Tangail Textile Engineering College.
Similarly, Sheikh Kamal Textile Engineering College in Jhenaidah Sadar is now Jhenaidah Textile Engineering College, Shahid Abdur Rab Serniabat Textile Engineering College in Barisal is now Barisal Textile Engineering College, Dr MA Wazed Miah Textile Engineering College in Rangpur is now Rangpur Textile Engineering College, Sheikh Rehana Textile Engineering College in Gopalganj is now Gopalganj Textile Engineering College, and Sheikh Hasina Textile Engineering College in Jamalpur is now Jamalpur Textile Engineering College.
Additionally, Shaheed Abdur Rab Serniabat Textile Institute in Barisal is now Barisal Textile Institute, Begum Amina Monsur Textile Engineering Institute in Sirajganj is Sirajganj Textile Engineering Institute, Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Textile Institute in Mandar, Naogaon is now Naogaon Textile Institute, Sheikh Russel Textile Institute in Madarganj, Jamalpur is Jamalpur Textile Institute, and Sahiuddin Textile Vocational Institute in Meherpur is now Meherpur Textile Vocational Institute.
Recently, the government also decided to rename 13 public universities that had been named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and other family members.
Of these, 10 were named after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, one after Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, and one after Sheikh Hasina. Besides, another one was named after Mujibnagar.
