Additional Inspector General of Police (Crime and Operations) Md Sayedur Rahman has directed police to identify and take strict action against kingpins involved in drug trafficking and juvenile gangs.

He issued the directive while presiding over the monthly crime review meeting at Police Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon.

Metropolitan police commissioners, range deputy inspectors general (DIGs) and district superintendents of police (SPs) joined the meeting virtually.
DIG (Crime Management) Mohammad Abu Sufian and other senior officials attended in person.

Sayedur Rahman said Bangladesh Police maintains a “zero-tolerance” policy towards drugs and juvenile gangs.

He urged field-level police personnel to perform their duties with honesty, dedication and professionalism to improve the force’s public image. He also stressed the need for humane treatment of the public.

The additional IGP instructed police to register robbery cases promptly and expedite investigations to bring perpetrators to justice.

Emphasising close supervision of rape investigations, he said it would help increase the conviction rate. He also directed police officials to improve the rate of disposal of other cases.
