Nationals of United Kingdom, Australia and South Korea will soon leave Bangladesh for their respective countries on special chartered flights amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman on Sunday confirmed Dhaka Tribune of the development regarding the Australian and South Korean nationals.

“A special chartered flight of Sri Lankan Airlines is scheduled to depart from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on April 16 with 294 Australian citizens,” he said.

South Korean nationals will also leave Dhaka very soon for their homeland on a special chartered flight, he added.

According to CAAB sources, British nationals currently in Bangladesh will, for the first time since the pandemic started, leave for home on another chartered flight.

On April 5, the Bangladesh government issued a press release saying that it has put forth its best efforts to help foreign citizens and permanent residents (PR) stranded in Bangladesh.

“The government has extended its wholehearted cooperation to foreign missions in Dhaka who sought assistance to take their citizens and PRs keen to stand by their family members during this crisis period,” the release added.

On April 1, more than 300 Japanese nationals left Dhaka for Tokyo by a special chartered flight of Biman Bangladesh airlines in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

On March 30, 269 US citizens left Dhaka by a special chartered flight of Qatar airways, while earlier, 225 Malaysians and 139 Bhutanese citizens also left on chartered flights personal choice amid this global pandemic.
