In line with the country, Bangladeshi missions across the globe also observed the National Mourning Day with great respect, and due solemnity.
Embassies, High Commissions, Permanent Missions to the United Nations, Consulate Generals, Deputy High Commissions, and Assistant High Commissions of Bangladesh in six continents observed the 44th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through different programs, according to the messages received from the missions around the world on Thursday.
The programs included hoisting the national flag at half-mast, placing wreaths before the portrait of Bangabandhu, and observance of one-minute silence in the memory of the country's first President, who along with his many family members were brutally murdered on this day in 1975 by some errant army officers.
Prayers were offered for the salvation of the departed souls, and messages of the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out.
Participated by officials of the respective missions, host countries, and Bangladeshi expats, discussions were also held, reflecting on the life and teachings of Bangabandhu.
Many missions also organized programs like screening documentaries on the late leader's remarkable life, and drawing competitions among the children.
