The coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Jahangirnagar University (JU) have removed portraits of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from the university’s administrative building.
They went from office to office within the administrative building, taking down Bangabandhu’s portraits around 1:30pm on Thursday.
They removed his portraits from the council room as well.
During the process, they chanted slogans such as, “Break down the stronghold of Mujibism, turn it around” and “Light the flame against Mujib’s throne; Mujibism has no place in Bangladesh.”
Towhid Ahmed Siam, coordinator of the JU unit Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said: “With the blood of thousands of students and people, we have ousted the killer-fascist Hasina from this country.
“Mujib, whom Hasina and her regime idolize, was the godfather of fascism in Bangladesh. We have declared from the beginning that there will be no place for fascist Mujib in this country. Just as his image has been removed at the national level, we have vowed to remove any trace of him here at Jahangirnagar University.
