Independent candidate Ashraful Hossen Alom, widely known as Hero Alam, has lost to Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal candidate AKM Rezaul Karim Tansen by 834 votes in Bogra-4 by-polls on Wednesday.
Alam bagged 19,571 votes while Tansen got 20,405 votes, according to unofficial results.
He was ahead for the majority of vote counting. However, when the final result of all 112 centres was announced, it was found that Hero Alom was defeated by a narrow margin.
On the other hand, Hero Alom is currently in third position in Bogra-6 (Bogra Sadar) by-election.
He has received 3,956 votes while the top two candidates have received 26,709 and 12,799 votes respectively.
Earlier in the day, Hero Alom said he is hopeful of winning both by huge margins if they are held in a fair manner.
Polling in Bogra-4 and 6 constituencies started from 8:30am and continued till 4:30pm.
Earlier on January 17, the High Court stayed a decision of the Election Commission cancelling Hero Alom's nomination for the by-polls to the Bogra-4 and Bogra-6 as an independent candidate.
Hero Alom filed the appeal to the High Court (HC) after the Election Commission (EC) rejected his appeal against the cancellation of his nomination papers.
The Election Commission announced the cancellation of Hero Alom's nomination papers on January 15.
Earlier on January 12, the Election Commission held a hearing on Hero Alom's appeal. He appeared before the Election Commission and participated in the hearing.
Hero Alom contested the 11th national election from Bogra-4 as an independent candidate. He got 638 votes.
