The government is working to bring all primary schools, kindergartens and English-medium institutions across the country under a unified monitoring system, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a training workshop on classroom management and the role of local administration in primary education on Wednesday.
Hajjaj said the existing monitoring system of the Directorate of Primary Education has mainly focused on government primary schools. Under a new policy, the monitoring framework will be expanded to cover all primary-level institutions.
He stressed the importance of regular field visits to assess the actual condition of schools and improve the quality of primary education. He also called for education administration to rely on accurate and verified data to address discrepancies in official records.
The state minister said the government plans to introduce school feeding programs in all government primary schools across the country next year.
He said the new monitoring framework would focus on learning outcomes, student attendance, nutrition and the overall learning environment.
Hajjaj said education officials would be required to follow seven key standards to improve quality and ensure accountability. These include ensuring regular school operations, verifying teacher attendance, maintaining accurate student enrolment records and directly observing students’ learning.
The standards will also cover ensuring that government resources reach the intended beneficiaries, maintaining safe and functional school infrastructure, and promoting respectful interactions among officials, students, guardians, media representatives and the public.
Hajjaj also reiterated the government’s commitment to removing untrained teachers from classrooms. He said teachers in both government and private primary schools would need proper training and qualifications.
He added that teacher recruitment, training and classroom teaching capacity would be key components of the future monitoring system.
Md Nurul Islam, Deputy Director of Primary Education for Chittagong Division, chaired the event. Additional Director General Md Abdur Rahim and primary education officials from different districts and upazilas were present as special guests.
