The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations for 2023 began on Sunday morning.
Education Minister Dipu Moni and Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury visited the Badda High School test centre in Dhaka to check if everything was up to the mark.
According to the Ministry of Education, 2,072,163 students are sitting for this year's exams under 11 education boards - nine general, one madrasa and one technical.
This year the exams are being held on all subjects with full 100 marks but on curtailed syllabuses. The authorities took the decision to shorten the syllabuses in light of the fact that the students taking these exams have attended fewer in-person classes compared to the pre-Covid period.
Meanwhile, all coaching centres across the country will remain closed from April 26 to May 23 during the exams.
All necessary measures had been taken to hold the exams smoothly, Education Minister Dipu Moni said at an event in Bhola on Saturday.
Noting that there was no chance of a question paper leak this year, she said action would be taken against anyone spreading rumours about it.
