Two people were killed in separate accidents in the capital, with one dying after being hit by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Rampura and another fatally struck by a train while crossing railway tracks in the Kuril Bishwaroad area on Sunday.

A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, Md Yusuf, 35, died after being hit by another CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Rampura late Saturday night.

Yusuf, son of Idris Ali of Bakshiganj upazila in Jamalpur district, had been living in a rented house in Rasulpur, Kamrangirchar, while his wife and two children reside in their village home.

According to his nephew Mehedi, Yusuf's rented auto-rickshaw developed a mechanical fault on Saturday night. While he was repairing the vehicle on the roadside, another CNG-run auto-rickshaw struck him, leaving him critically injured.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he succumbed to his injuries at around 6:00am on Sunday while undergoing treatment.

Confirming the incident, Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said Yusuf's body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, and the matter has been reported to the relevant police station.

In a separate incident, a garment worker was killed after being hit by a train while crossing railway tracks in the Kuril Bishwaroad area at around 6:30am on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Md Rakibul Islam, 22, son of private car driver Md Mofizul Islam from Char Khalifa village in Daulatkhan upazila of Bhola district.

He had been living with his family in a rented house in Kuratoli, Kuril.

A passer-by, Abu Raihan, who took Rakib to the hospital, said it was drizzling when the victim attempted to cross the railway tracks carelessly. He was struck by an airport-bound train and thrown onto the road, sustaining critical injuries.

Rakib was first taken to Kurmitola General Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors at the hospital's emergency department declared him dead at around 8:30am.
