A pedestrian was killed and two others, including a child, were injured after a passenger bus veered out of control and ploughed into the compound of Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital on Sunday night.
The deceased, Rafiqul Islam, was an employee of a local hotel.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Gulshan Division) Tanvir Hasan confirmed the incident.
According to police and local sources, the driver of a Poristhan Paribahan bus lost control while attempting to pull over in the Kurmitola area to drop off passengers.
The bus veered into the compound of Kurmitola General Hospital, crashing through part of the wall of a gas control room beside the main gate. Rafiqul Islam, who was standing near the entrance, was struck by the bus and died on the spot.
Police from Cantonment Police Station later detained the bus driver in connection with the incident.
