Three cattle traders, including two brothers, were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a cattle-laden human haulier in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred around 9:00am in the Hajirhat area of the Bonpara-Hatikumrul Highway, near a gas station.
The deceased were identified as The damaAkkas Ali, 58, his brother Jahangir Hossain, 48, and Abdur Rahman, 70. Akkas and Jahangir were residents of Dhamaniapara village in Baraigram upazila, while Abdur Rahman hailed from Laxmikole in the same upazila.
The three were taking cattle to the Chandaikona cattle market in Sirajganj when their human haulier collided head-on with a passenger bus travelling in the opposite direction.
The bus’s front was damaged in the collision, but none of its passengers were injured.
Abdur Rahman died on the spot. Akkas died at Baraigram Upazila Health Complex, while Jahangir succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rajshahi.
Officer-in-Charge of Bonpara Highway Police Station Moniruzzaman said police rushed to the scene after receiving the report and rescued the victims. The damaged bus and the human haulier were later taken to the police station.
“Legal proceedings are underway in connection with the accident,” he added.
