Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, MP, has categorically said that immediate legal action will be taken against those concerned if any irregularities or unfair means are adopted regarding fertilizers.

"There is no shortage of fertilizers and the government is providing a huge subsidy for adequate supply of fertilizers," he said.

The minister said this while briefing reporters after attending the Lalmonirhat District Hospital Management Committee meeting on Wednesday, a press release of the Rangpur Regional PID Office said here on Wednesday evening.

Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, also the BNP Organizing Secretary for Rangpur division, said that the allocation of fertilizers to the districts has been increased further this year compared to last year.

"The government is providing adequate fertilizers and also subsidizing it. As a result, the talk of a fertilizer crisis is being publicized more than the real situation," he said.

Noting that initiatives have been taken to increase the number of dealers to make the fertilizer supply system easier, he said that in addition to appointing one more dealer in each union, the number of retailers is also being increased.

Informing the government's strict stance against irregularities in fertilizer management, the minister said that the government has adopted a "zero tolerance" policy against any kind of corruption or dishonest means in fertilizers.

"The district administration has been instructed to monitor this issue closely," he said.

He said that if any dealer illegally stores fertilizers, the fertilizers will be recovered through mobile courts as soon as information is received, and immediate legal action will be taken against those involved.

On this occasion, Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Rashedul Hoque Prodhan, District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, Civil Surgeon Dr Md Abdul Hakim, and Superintendent of Lalmonirhat District Hospital Dr Md Abu-al-Hazzaz were present.
