Two people were arrested with 600 sacks of urea fertilizer allegedly being smuggled to Myanmar in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong on Wednesday night.
Coast Guard media officer Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the arrests Thursday.
He said a team from Coast Guard Station Bhatyari conducted a special operation based on a tip-off near Bashbaria Ghat around 12:30 am.
The team intercepted two trucks as the fertilizer was being transferred to a cargo boat for illegal shipment to Myanmar.
The Coast Guard seized 600 sacks containing 30,000kg of urea worth around Tk 21 lakh, along with the two trucks used in the smuggling operation. Two suspected smugglers were also arrested.
Legal proceedings against the seized fertilizer, trucks and detainees are underway, Lt Commander Sujon said.
