Renowned actor Shams Sumon passes away

Renowned actor and station chief of Radio Bhumi Shams Sumon passed away on Tuesday due to cardiac arrest at a private hospital in the capital. He was 58.

Family sources said that he reportedly fell ill suddenly after 5:00 PM on Tuesday. He was rushed to a hospital on Green Road, where he later died.

The Actors’ Association has announced that the namaz-e-janaza of the late actor will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am on the Channel i premises.

Shams Sumon began his career in stage dramas and later gained widespread popularity on television and in films. In recent years, he had taken a step back from television but remained a respected figure in the entertainment industry.

In addition to his acting career, Sumon served as the station chief of the private radio station Radio Bhumi, making significant contributions to Bangladesh’s media.

As a cultural enthusiast, he was an active member of the recitation organization ‘SWANAN’ at Rajshahi University and played a prominent role in the university’s cultural scene for many years. Born on March 2, 1968, he completed his studies in Marketing at Rajshahi University.

Sumon’s notable films include Mon Janena Moner Thikana (2016), Cox’s Bazar-e Kakatuya (2016), Chokher Dekha (2016), Priya Tumi Sukhi Hao (2014), Ayna Kahini (2013), Bidrohi Padma (2006), Joyjatra (2004), Nomuna (2008), and Hello Amit (2012). He received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2008 for his performance in Swopnopuron.

Shams Sumon’s sudden demise is a significant loss to the Bangladeshi entertainment and media community.
