Ariana Grande ended her 41-date “Eternal Sunshine” tour with an emotional final performance at London’s O2 Arena on Tuesday, September 1, before beginning an extended break from public appearances.
The singer became visibly emotional during several performances, including “One Last Time," which has particular significance for survivors and families affected by the 2017 Manchester terror attack.
Addressing the London audience, Grande thanked fans for their support and described the tour as one of the most extraordinary experiences of her life.
“I’ll cherish this experience always,” she told the crowd, adding that she was grateful to have the “best fans in the entire world."
Grande had announced last month that she would step back from public-facing activities after the tour. Her representatives said the decision followed continued public scrutiny and was intended to allow her to take a break.
The singer has also withdrawn from the upcoming West End production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George”, in which she had been scheduled to appear alongside her “Wicked” co-star Jonathan Bailey. Bailey subsequently announced his own departure from the production.
Despite the emotional moments, Grande delivered a largely energetic performance throughout her final show. A foot injury meant she had to replace her trademark stilettos with knee-high platform boots, but she continued performing alongside her dancers.
The Eternal Sunshine tour marked Grande’s return to the stage after a seven-year absence. Her 10-show London residency attracted fans from around the world and brought the tour to a close after performances across North America and the UK.
Grande had previously described the tour as a “last hurrah” and said she wanted to devote more time to acting following her Oscar-nominated performance in “Wicked”.
The London shows received largely positive reviews, with critics praising Grande’s vocals, stage presence, and production. However, some also expressed concern over the intense public scrutiny surrounding her appearance.
Grande has rejected the suggestion that her decision to step back was prompted by the criticism. She previously described the move as a planned and deliberate decision, saying, "Boundaries need to be set; human beings do need a break sometimes.”
During the final show, Grande ended the performance with a theatrical exit, ascending above the stage as fans watched on.
It remains unclear when she will return to touring or regular public appearances. For now, the singer is set to take a break following the conclusion of her “Eternal Sunshine” tour.
