Students from private universities have set off towards the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan to take part in the 'March for Gaza' program.
On Saturday, around 2pm, they were seen heading towards Suhrawardy Udyan via the Kakrail intersection in the capital.
Speaking to the students revealed that participants in the procession included students from Brac University, East West University, American International University, University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS), and Imperial College.
They mentioned that, along with these, students from various madrasas and the general public also took part in the march.
Since the morning, students began gathering in front of East West University in Aftabnagar. Then, at 1pm, they started marching toward Suhrawardy Udyan.
In the procession, participants were seen carrying both small and large Palestinian flags. They chanted slogans such as “Palestine, Palestine.” During this time, traffic movement came to a halt at the Kakrail intersection.
Tanin Hasan, a student of the University of Information Technology and Sciences, said: “We, the students from various private universities, gathered this morning in front of East West University in Aftabnagar. From there, at around 1pm, we began our march towards Suhrawardy Udyan.”
Zahidul Islam Adi, a student of Imperial College, said: “Today’s March for Gaza is a very large program. Some are saying it will have no impact. But in reality, it will. When this is covered by international media, it will have an impact. We hope that then Israel will stop their genocide.”
He further said: “When we see massacres on TV being committed against Palestinians, when we see their dead bodies, our hearts tremble. We will not let the people of Gaza be defeated like this. It is written in the Holy Quran that Palestine will exist until the Day of Judgment.”
On Saturday at 3pm, the “March for Gaza” program was organized at Suhrawardy Udyan by a platform named ‘Palestine Solidarity Movement Bangladesh’. The program will continue until Maghrib prayer.
