Dilshad Afrin, recently expelled from the Narayanganj Fatulla thana committee of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, has been arrested on the accusation of embezzling funds from the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation.
Police arrested her in the Ramna area of the capital, Ramna police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Faruq confirmed on Friday, reports Bangla Tribune.
She was expelled from the organization for actions that were against the discipline and ideals of the organization.
The OC said that a fraud case was filed against her regarding the embezzlement of funds from the foundation. "She has been shown arrested in that case." The OC said she has been sent to court.
Earlier on Tuesday, her expulsion was made known through a letter signed by the acting member-secretary of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, Akhtar Hossain. The incident came to light on Thursday afternoon.
The expulsion order signed by Akhtar Hossain said: “Through this letter, you (Dilshad Afrin) are hereby informed that your recent activities have appeared to be contrary to the discipline and ideals of our organization according to the rules and regulations of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee.”
It further stated that based on all allegations and in the interest of maintaining the discipline of the organization, a decision has been made to expel Afrin from the Jatiya Nagorik Committee at the request of the convener (acting) Nasiruddin Patwari and member-secretary (acting) Akhtar Hossain.
