Update : 11 May 2025, 12:00 PM

Following the Interim Government's announcement late Saturday night banning the activities of the Bangladesh Awami League until the completion of judicial proceedings related to the July massacre, jubilant rallies erupted in Sylhet city and on the campus of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust).

At around 11pm, shortly after the advisory council declared the ban, members of various political and student organizations took to the streets in celebration.

Separate rallies were organized by the Jatiya Nagorik Party, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and Islami Chhatra Shibir, all welcoming the Interim Government's decision and chanting slogans against the Awami League.

Later, at around 11:45pm, students of Sust brought out a celebratory rally from Shah Paran Hall, which marched across the campus and ended at the university’s main gate.

Upon reaching the gate, the students distributed sweets, marking the moment with jubilation.

The ban on the Awami League marks a significant shift in the country’s political landscape as the interim administration moves ahead with its commitment to justice regarding the July massacre.
