LDP President Oli Ahmed criticizes interim government, demands fair elections and reforms urgently

Update : 13 Jan 2025, 05:24 PM

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed stated that the interim government had failed to meet the people's expectations.

He noted that the goverments main focus was to ensure a fair and acceptable national parliament election.

He also warned that if the arrangements for elections were not made soon, they would be compelled to launch a movement against the interim government.

“The interim government has failed to meet the expectations of the people. Our main focus now is to ensure a fair and acceptable national parliament election. If arrangements for elections are not made soon, we will launch a movement against the interim government,” he said.

He made this remark on Monday during a press conference at the LDP office in Maghbazar, Dhaka.

Oli Ahmed highlighted that the victory of August 5 was achieved due to the efforts of politicians, saying: “Many of us in the opposition faced 300 to 400, even up to 500, cases. The victory on August 5 came because of the hard work of politicians."

He further added: "Our primary demand now is the national parliament election. The elected representatives will decide when and how the local government elections will take place. Otherwise, we will be forced to go into a movement.”

“We do not see any signs of reform. Over the past six months, no action has been taken against corrupt looters. Due to the lack of progress in necessary reforms, the nation is disappointed. The nation had high hopes from the interim government. I believe they are incapable. They lack the skill, experience, and enthusiasm required,” he said.

The LDP president said: “If this continues, the current government will face public outrage. Government advisors are not performing their duties properly. There are attempts to form a new political party under state patronage.”
