Update : 20 Mar 2025, 10:34 PM

The LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) disagrees with 42 recommendations. Of the 166 questionnaires sent to political parties by the National Consensus Commission on reform recommendations, the LDP agrees with the remaining 120.

After the consensus commission dialogue, the party's Chairman Dr Oli Ahmad spoke of his party’s opinion. He said this in a dialogue with the National Consensus Commission at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building area on Thursday.

However,  Oli Ahmad said: "If an OC and a UNO, these two people, do not work, then no matter what you do, you will not be able to hold fair elections."

He said, among all the recommendations, the recommendation to reform the Election Commission was weak.

After the meeting Oli Ahmad said: "Out of the 166 questionnaires that the National Consensus Commission sent to political parties with reform recommendations, the LDP agrees with 120 of them."

He added: "The LDP does not agree with the remaining 42 proposals. It partially agrees with two proposals and it is still unclear about two proposals."

In addition, out of 70 proposals related to constitutional reform, the LDP agrees with 51, disagrees with 16, partially agrees with one, and considers two proposals unclear.

Of the 23 proposals of the Judicial Reform Commission, 22 are agreed with and one is partially agreed with.

Of the 20 proposals of the Anti-Corruption Commission, all are agreed with.

Of the 26 proposals of the Public Administration Reform Commission, 11 are agreed with and 15 are not agreed with.

The LDP told the commission that it agreed with 16 of the 27 proposals for electoral reform and disagreed with 11.

"They should have collected the papers of the dialogue they had with the political parties in the past," he said.

The dialogue was attended by Commission President Ali Riaz and members, Police Reform Commission chief Safar Raj Hossain; Judicial Reform Commission Member Justice Emdadul Haque and Anti-Corruption Reform Commission Chairperson Dr Iftekharuzzaman; Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider.

The 8-member LDP delegation led by Oli Ahmed included Secretary General Redwan Ahmed, Presidium Members Neyamul Bashir, Aurangzeb Belal, KQ Saqlain, Omar Faruk, Advisory Council Member Mahbubur Rahman and Joint Secretary General Billal Hossain Miyazi.

"Jatiya Oikymoto Commission" (the National Consensus Commission), formed under the leadership of Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser to the interim government, began work on February 15.

The commission sent a spreadsheet of 166 questions to 38 parties to seek their opinions on the important recommendations of the remaining five commissions, except for the Police Reform Commission. So far, 16 parties, including the Jamaat and LDP, have given their opinions.
